Massaging and Exfoliating Your Scalp. Oooo yes, please.

Massaging and Exfoliating Your Scalp. Oooo yes, please.

You may not be an expert, but we think its safe to assume that you know how crucial regular face exfoliation and both face and body massages are (face massages have quite literally become my favorite part of my nighttime routine). Removing dead skin cells is key to keeping a blemish free face and radiant skin, and massages are not only relaxing, great for circulation, and some even say can help keep the face sculpted overtime. Well, apparently giving your scalp that same care can result in stronger and healthier hair.

When exfoliating your scalp, you're effectively doing the same thing that you do to your face - you're removing whatever shouldn't be there (normally dead skin, oils, and product buildup). You can perform this by either using a shampoo aimed towards exfoliation or, you can massage it and kill two birds with one stone.

Mainly, the exfoliation prevents pore-clogging and therefore prevents obstructions to the hair follicle from starting at the scalp. Doing this by physical massage doesn't come with too many cons so long as its gentle enough so as to not cause irritation. Shampoos and other "chemical-like" exfoliants can also be drying or irritating - so they too need to be used at a proper strength and on a proper schedule to avoid irritation.

While massaging does provide some level of exfoliation - we wouldn't consider that to be its main benefit. Massaging is likely best appreciated for its impact to the muscles in the scalp and head - it'll help release tension and (much like when massaging the face) will definitely increase the blood flow. It can also help stimulate the sebaceous glands and their frequency of sebum secretion which improves scalp health.

Remember, you can never be to healthy and taken care of underneath all of that beautiful GLAM. So definitely give it a try.
